We Are Koinonia Church

Koinonia Church began in 2015 as a Bible study led by Pastor Cesar and Reyma Muego in Mount Vernon, in partnership with the North American Mission Board and Seattle Church Planting. What started with about 15 people quickly grew through God’s provision and the support of partner churches. On September 26, 2015, the fellowship officially launched as Mount Vernon Christian Fellowship at Faith Community Fellowship, with families from Oak Harbor and Mount Vernon joining together.

In its early years, the church steadily grew, baptizing new believers, planting small groups, and celebrating anniversaries that drew over 100 attendees. Partnerships with Oak Harbor Christian Fellowship included joint camps, prayer gatherings, and outreach. By 2019, MVCF was averaging 70 in attendance and launched theological training through Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary’s extension program.

When the pandemic struck in 2020, the church pivoted to online worship, daily devotions, and testimonies. By God’s grace, members remained strong, and offerings even increased. Later that year, the Lord provided a new home at 2111 Riverside Drive, shared with Impact X Ministries. In 2021, the church began gathering there for in-person worship while continuing livestreams.

In 2022, the congregation baptized new believers, resumed church camps, and deepened discipleship. When the Impact X building was sold, God opened another door. In early 2023, MVCF moved into its current space at 2121 College Way, rebranding as Koinonia Church (“fellowship”). Growth followed quickly, with attendance peaking at 230 during its 8th anniversary. New ministries included outreach to Martha’s Place, student engagement at Skagit Valley College, and continued leadership development.

The church clarified its vision around four core values: Worship, Connect, Grow, Multiply. Members embraced discipleship through the Institute for Training in Ministry (iTIM) courses, with 60% completing Christianity 101 in 2023. In 2024, the Pastoral Ministry Cohort launched, raising new leaders for future multiplication.

Today, Koinonia Church is a multi-generational, multi-ethnic congregation committed to worshipping God, loving people, helping believers grow, and making disciples who make disciples. This year, 2025, we joyfully celebrate our 10th anniversary, giving glory to God for His faithfulness and looking ahead with faith to the years to come.

We are committed to fostering biblical fellowship and prayer, creating a strong sense of community and spiritual unity among its members. Through regular gatherings, small group discussions, and prayer meetings, the church nurtures deep, authentic relationships rooted in Scripture.

Growth

Growth

We are committed to training and equipping the people of God for effective ministry, ensuring that every member is prepared to serve and make a meaningful impact. Through comprehensive educational programs, practical workshops, and hands-on experiences, the church empowers individuals to develop their spiritual gifts and leadership skills.

Multiplication

We are committed to the mission of making disciples who, in turn, make disciples. By prioritizing intentional mentoring, Bible study, and practical outreach, the church fosters a culture of multiplication where every believer is equipped to share their faith and mentor others.

Our church's statement of belief is rooted in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. This document reflects our core convictions about the nature of God, the authority of Scripture, the role of the church, and the importance of salvation through Jesus Christ. It serves as a guiding framework for our teachings, practices, and commitment to living out the Christian faith.
